An overhead Electric Monorail System (EMS) transports commercial vehicle bodies for assembly operations. The EMS continuously carries vehicle cabins weighing approximately 300-800 kg and operates under dynamic loading conditions. This continuous movement places repetitive stresses on the track segments and mechanical joints of the monorail system. Over time, these sections may weaken because of wear and tear, leading to deformation, crack formation, and potential failure.
Current inspection practices rely primarily on periodic visual assessments, which do not detect early signs of deterioration. Therefore, there is a need for an automated structural health monitoring solution that can continuously assess the condition of the overhead EMS track system, identify early signs of failure, and provide timely maintenance insights.
The solution should detect crack initiation and propagation in real time, monitor wear, deformation, and joint deterioration, identify abnormalities at mechanical joints, and ideally provide health indicators or remaining useful life estimates for critical track sections. Real-time monitoring with automated alerts through dashboards, maintenance systems, or control-room interfaces is preferred.
