For arresting the sway & swing control of heavy work rolls, supports are provided at the ends of the work rolls manually which has to be automated

Challenge Details

In Hot Strip Mill (HSM) of Tata Steel, the work rolls usually of length of 3 meters and diameter of 2.5 feet weighing around 5 tons are moved from one location of the shopfloor to the grinding area frequently for resurfacing, using an EOT Cranes. These rolls are lifted by holding the Ropes which are inserted on each side of the roller which act as slings. The swaying & rotation of the roller is arrested by using manual screw jacks at the ends of the work rolls. The screw jack operation is manual in nature (has to be rotated) and is carried out during loading as well as unloading of the Roller, which is not safe for the operators.
