Rebars are produced from cast billets by hot rolling. These rebars are cut to a specific length in the cutting section. The rebars are then bundled.
In the cutting section, due to some unavoidable reasons, shorter length rebars are cut. A short length rebar is any rebar with length less than 12 meters. To prevent these short rebars from reaching the customers, identification & removal of short rebars is carried out manually (24x7x365 days) on the cooling bed. Manual removal activity exposes the rebar sorting person to safety hazards like hot working environment (ambient temperature 50 to 60 oC) and tripping & falling. In addition, manual removal leads to delay and reduces productivity.
The figure shows a representative image comparing a short rebar to a 12-meter-long rebar.
We are looking for alternative methods for identification & removal of Rebars at the cooling bed that will eliminate the manual work.
