Sensors play a vital role in gathering data from actual conditions. Sensors have existed for a long time for measuring temperature, light, sound, viscosity, hardness, strength, humidity, vibrations, speed, acceleration, depth, current, change in dimensions, proximity and identifying the type (characteristics) of material etc. With increasing Industry 4.0, the need is to have sensors that are smaller, highly responsive, intelligent, modular, easy to integrate and are sturdy (harsh conditions).
